Mossman Gorge takes centre stage

Located in the southern part of the World Heritage listed, Daintree National Park, Mossman Gorge is one of the few places in the country that visitors can gain an insight into the lives, culture and beliefs of Australia's Indigenous population and their connection to the natural environment.

Journey into the lush rainforest of Mossman Gorge and experience the wonders of the Daintree Rainforest all the while getting lost in its enchanting stories and rich Indigenous heritage.

The Mossman Gorge Centre is a new Indigenous eco tourism development that will better serve visitors to the Mossman Gorge World Heritage site than ever before.  Parking is available for up to 250 cars.

Mossman Gorge will provide one of Australia's most iconic Aboriginal experiences in Tropical North Queensland and is the perfect option for visitors looking for a genuine, authentic engagement with Indigenous Australia.

Mossman Gorge

At the Mossman Gorge Centre you will find an array of services to help you organise your adventure through the Gorge. Staff at the Visitor Information desk will assist you in planning your route around the Gorge, as well as book onto your Dreamtime Walk.

The key experiences are the guided walks including the one and half hour Dreamtime walk  and the three hour Dreamtime Gorge walk.  All walks are conducted with a traditional owner and the groups are kept to about fifteen visitors at a time.  Visitors are treated to a walk along private, east graded tracks, visiting special places and culturally significant sites, past traditional bark shelters and over meandering cool rainforest streams.

The experienced interpretive guides demonstrate traditional plant use, identify bush tucker sources, share their dreamtime legends, explain the history of cave painmtings and provide an enchanting narrative of the rainforest and their special relationships within this unique tropical environment.

Plan your route over a coffee at the café or peruse the art gallery, a pleasure that might have more relevance after hearing about the Dreamtime stories from the Kuku Yalanji people.

The specially designed eco-friendly, low emission Shuttle buses depart regularly throughout the day from the Centre every 15 mins to the heart of the Gorge where the walking trails start. Opening hours are 8am to 18.00pm daily

The art gallery and shop showcase the art and design of the local Kuku Yalanji people and leading Indigenous artists from across Far North Queensland. These artworks develop and explore traditional and contemporary media and themes. The artists and designers exhibited bring their knowledge of local traditional lore and culture to realise vibrant new designs in paint, prints, fabrics, wood and paper.

The gift shop at the Mossman Gorge Centre stocks a wide range of gifts designed and produced by the local Indigenous community and caters for all budgets so that every visitor can leave with a special keepsake. The gift shop at the Centre is also a great place to start or finish your trip.

You can enjoy a taste of the rainforest at the cafe. The specially designed menu features predominantly locally sourced produce infused with Indigenous bush ingredients.  It offers everything from light snacks and refreshments through to delicious meals – guaranteed to satisfy any appetite after an afternoon exploring the Gorge.
