Your election questions answered this Sunday

Lachlan Bensted
Cook candidate, Lachlan Bensted, of Katter’s Australian Party, will answer tough questions this Sunday, as will his counterparts.

Voters will be able to ask local candidates for the upcoming State and local government elections some pressing questions in Cairns from this Sunday.

Organised by a group of concerned residents, the three, free forums will be held at the performance stage in City Place.

Candidates for the seat of Cook will be present at this Sunday’s forum, mayoral candidates will go head to head on Sunday, April 1, while Division 10 candidates for Cairns Regional Council will unveil their plans for our region on Sunday, April 8.

The not-for-profit forums, mediated by Toastmasters International, will give voters the opportunity to ask candidates pressing questions.

Along with the North Oueensland Party and One Nation, Bob Katter’s Australian Party and the Australian Labor Party will also be represented this Sunday.

The Liberal National Party was yet to confirm its attendance.

Organiser, Angus Gasson, said public discussion on local issues was needed in the lead-up to both State and local elections.

“We especially would like to encourage young people to come along and ask questions to the candidates - it doesn’t matter if they are not old enough to vote,” he said.

“The decisions made by politicians today will affect their future tomorrow”.

Confirmed forum participants for this Sunday include Darren Hunt (KAP Cairns), John Piva (Nth Qld Party Cairns), Kirsten Lesina (ALP Cairns), Brendan Fitzgerald (KAP Barron River), Steve Wettenhall (ALP Barron River), Curtis Pitt (ALP Mulgrave), Damian Byrnes (KAP Mulgrave), Jim Evans (One Nation Cook), and Lachlan Bensted (KAP Cook).
