Walk fundraiser tops $5,000

In a strong show of support for flood victims in Queensland's south, around 70 people took to the streets to help raise much needed money to aid recovery efforts.

The rain seemed fitting as adults, kids, and even some family pets congregated at the Port Douglas Surf Saving Club on Saturday morning, before taking a short stroll along the Esplanade - a king tide thwarting the original beach walk plan.

The crowd swelled to 100 as an auction commenced, with a staggering $5,000 raised from items which received generous offers with a little help from auctioneer Travis Schumacher from Raine and Horne.

Event organiser, Wendy Porter, thanked those who gave of their time, services, and money to make the morning a success including Coastline and Lotsa Printing who received a special mention.

"I want to thank everyone who helped on the day. We're really lucky to be part of such a tight-knit community," she said.

Other businesses who contributed to the success included Spa By The Sea, Mylo Heidke, Quicksilver, Plantation Resort,  Actin Fitness, Online life coaching, Port Douglas Watersports, Lynda Hart Miller, Possum Beauty, and Gardening @ Port.

All monies raised have been donated to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
