A meeting between Office of Liquor and Gaming representatives, local police, and Port Douglas hoteliers have ruled that the two men charged with offences relating to an incident which left local man Matthew Manns with a broken jaw be banned from entering a licensed premises for two years.

The monthly Liquor Accord meeting was held on 8 August and as a result of the meeting five people in total were placed on the black list which bans entry to all participating licensed venues in Port Douglas.

Violent and disorderly behaviour, and intimidation of bar staff are common reasons why an individual would be banned.

"The licensees have ownership of it (the accord), we just facilitate the mechanism for it to happen along with the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulations," said Port Douglas Police Officer in Charge, Sergeant Damian Meadows.

Sergeant Meadows said he had asked those at the meeting if the two males in their late teens allegedly involved in the assault of Mr Manns should be banned, and after a general consensus a two-year ban was passed.    

"All the licensees have been very, very good and have stuck to their guns," Sergeant Meadows said.

"As a result there has been a reduction in the minor stuff like the disorderly on licensed premises and refusal to leave, there has been a reduction in those.

"The ultimate goal is to change their behaviour. If they want to have the ability to attend a licensed premises then they need to accept that they need to change their behaviour.

The accord does not yet include licensed premises in Mossman.
