U11 Thunderbolts improving
Under 11 Douglas Thunderbolts played Atherton Cyclones at Mossman High on Saturday, captained by Aden Trewick. Cyclones won the toss and elected to bat.
Daniel Davidson opened the bowling with a great, tight first over. Fellow opener, pace bowler Riley Sawyer took two sensational wickets in his first over, clean bowling Cyclone’s opening batsmen, then effecting a run out in the third over of the match.
Thunderbolts euphoria was heightened when Sawyer took his third wicket, for 6 runs off 3 overs. Other wicket takers were Max Brennan (1 for 15 runs off 2 overs) and Laura Coulthard (1 for 7 runs off 3 overs). Levi Trewick ended the day with an economic 0 for 2 runs off 3 overs, and Mitchell Knight 0 for 8 runs off 3 overs).
Despite Cyclones being 5 wickets down for 24 runs in the seventh over, Atherton clawed their way back to reach a 6 for 100 at the end of their 25 overs.
Thunderbolts had a number of batsman retire after facing their allotted number of fair balls: Opening batsman and top-scorer L Trewick 10; Davidson 5; Coulthard 1; Julian Hunt 1. Nathan Deuble cracked his first boundary of the season, making 5 runs before being dismissed.
Tidy bowling and fielding from the Cyclones throughout the match restricted Thunderbolts to 70 runs with the loss of 5 wickets.
Even though Thunderbolts have had only one victory so far this season, the players, most coming from Milo In2Cricket last season, continue to improve each week.
The team will take a well-earned break until the season resumes on January 30, 2010.
