Thousands of votes have been lodged from all over the world for the Port Douglas Magazine Business Awards 2011.

The Awards have been designed to give consumers the opportunity to throw their support behind their favourite Port Douglas businesses and attractions.

The Port Douglas Magazine Business Awards 2011 are once again to be held on the Sunset Balcony at the Newsport Daily corporate offices overlooking the beautiful Coral Sea on Friday 21 October between 6pm and 9pm.  

Tickets are available to the gala evening containing all the glitz and glamour worthy of this prestigious event.  

With the full support of the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce, the Magazine Awards have once again proved to be an effective vehicle to stimulate healthy competition between businesses.

Over 4,000 individual votes have so far been received via post and online from visitors from all over the world.

The Awards, the brainchild of tourismportdouglas.com.au and the Port Douglas Magazine team, recognise the highest levels of service and product quality within Port Douglas and surrounding region.

Uniquely, the nominated businesses did not have to enter themselves into the competition as with many other industry awards.  Each business simply had to offer a level of service that enthused a customer to say "well done" with a vote.  

To win a Port Douglas Magazine Business Award you don't have to impress a panel of judges, you have to impress your paying customers. Winning one of these awards represents a ‘peoples choice’ accolade.

Publishing Editor Roy Weavers explains, “The Port Douglas area is built on the service industry, so we wanted to give them something to aspire to, something to be proud of.  

"We wanted to recognise those businesses that are achieving the very best customer service.  In order to do that we needed consumers to have their say by voting in the various categories. This will showcase who's the best of the best."

Over 275 businesses have been nominated across the six major, and 21 ‘Best of’ categories, so the winners will have had to be on their game throughout the year to take the final honours on the night.

There are also three other special awards being awarded during the evening, The Editors Award for Excellence, Young Achievers Award and the second annual inductee/s into the Port Douglas Hall of Fame.
