Mat moved to Port Douglas in December 2009, like everyone else it seems, from Victoria - specifically Bendigo in central Victoria, a town built on gold mining similar to Port Douglas (but that's where the similarities end).

Mat's sojourn into the newsroom as a reporter at The Newsport coincided with his move to Port Douglas. He has now moved to the role of editor, but continues to write articles and opinion pieces for the growing number of visitors to the site.

Journalist 

Kerry Larsen started as a cadet journalist at the age of 18 with the Community Newspaper Group in Perth, before writing for the Westside Football AFL newspaper in Perth, and the Mandurah Mail newspaper in regional WA.
She also started a radio career in community radio at the same age, moving onto being news director in commercial radio, at Mandurah, south of Perth, at the age of 21.
Since moving to Port Douglas in 2000, Kerry has studied a Diploma of Natural Medicine and sports medicine, traveled and taught English in China, and worked in various roles for seven years at Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas. She has been the female voice behind PortFM’s Saturday Morning Sports Show since 2006, and returned to print media in 2010 with the now-defunct FNQ Independent, before joining The Newsport team in 2011.

David imparts his knowledge on topics affecting peoples hip pockets in a practical and straight forward approach giving great insight to The Newsport readers.

A feature writer for The Newsport, Devra’s Whileaway Book Club book reviews have been a popular addition to the site. Devra’s passion for literature shines through in her writing (and her coffees are pretty special too).

Gemma is an integral member of The Newsport sports team, reporting on Douglas Netball Association matches in the most comprehensive roundup in town. Her knowledge of the local competition means readers gain insight into the players and the teams of the DNA.   

Feature Writer / Environment

Heidi’s dedication to the environment shines through in her regular contributions to Eco-Librium - The Newsport’s environmental feature outlining local issues and local actions. Heidi heads up Tangaroa Blue, the ocean care organisation fighting for cleaner oceans.   

Reporter / Sports

The Newsport’s Sports Commentator, ‘Nicky G’ joined the team with the introduction of the website’s dedicated sports page in April 2011. Nick had previously written for the FNQ Independent and now brings his unique style online to a growing number of avid followers.
