Smart Card to boost Daintree travel

Daintree River

Residents of the Cairns region can take advantage of free travel across the Daintree River, with the help of a locals’ Smart Card travel pass.

A two-month free ferry trial period started yesterday and concludes on January 15, 2012. During that time, the holder of a Smart Card is entitled to use the Daintree River ferry as often as they like at no charge.

Using the card will also put residents in the draw to win prizes, and receive discounts from a number of Daintree based businesses including Jungle Surfing Canopy Toursa and Solar Whisper Wildlife Cruises.

To obtain a locals’ Smart Card, visit the Cairns Regional Council customer service centres at 119-145 Spence Street, Cairns, or 64-66 Front Street, Mossman and ask for a Smart Card travel form.

Applicants will need to provide photo identification that proves residency within the Cairns Regional Council area, and a Smart Card travel pass will be issued on the spot.

Data will be collected from the Smart Cards, providing information on local use of the Daintree River ferry.
