Short walk to have big impact

Wendy Porter with daughters Kierra and Sienna invite you to Four Mile Beach to help support victims of Queensland's floods.

In what has become standard procedure in Port Douglas, when there is people in need the townsfolk act. And nowhere in Australia is there a greater need at present than in the flood affected areas of Queensland's south.

Images portrayed on the news of families struggling to save themselves and what possessions they can from the raging torrents has prompted Port Douglas resident Wendy Porter to organise a fundraising event.

Rain, hail, or shine at 9am on Saturday 22 January, Wendy is inviting you and your family to join her on a walk along Four Mile Beach as a show of support.

"I was watching it on TV this morning and I thought it's time to do something," Ms Porter said. "Having kids of my own and seeing other people who have lost their kids, it's pretty horrific."

Leaving from the flags at the Life Saving Club, participants will take a short stroll before returning to a marquee packed with auction items donated by the ever-supportive business community.

Raine and Horne will run the auction, and a donation of any size to take part in the event is greatly appreciated. The current list of items that have been donated include:

Spa By The Sea - swim lunch ladies package
Mylo Heidke picture on canvas
Quicksilver reef vouchers
Plantation Resort meal vouchers
Actin Fitness 'Sexyback' program
Online life coach session
Port Douglas Watersports vouchers (and will also donate their day's profits)
Lynda Hart Miller painting
Possum Beauty voucher
Gardening Port - two hours of gardening

Ms Porter is hoping to attract over 100 people to the event, so get your friends and family along to support her and the Queensland flood victims.

A Queensland Floods Facebook page has been established for more information on the crisis, and for people to leave tributes and messages.

If you would like any information on this event, or would like to donate an auction item, please call Wendy Porter on 0408 185 032.
