Shopping centre planned for Royal Hotel site

The iconic Royal Hotel on Front Street in Mossman and it's surrounding land was sold at the auction held at Rydges Sabaya Resort in Port Douglas just before Christmas (Dec 17).

The purchaser was a night club owner in Cairns who bought it for an undisclosed amount.

At the actual auction the property was passed in for $1.1M so the post auction negotiations would indicate it was around that area.

At the auction there were 50 people in attendance with 12 registered bidders. Several offers were made directly after the auction on the individual properties by different parties.

The purchaser ended up being the highest bidder at the auction. Apparently they intend to remove the old houses and build commercial shops but no decisions have been made on what they are doing with the pub itself.  This decision will be very much dependent on licensing opportunities available.
