Sheraton Mirage Lagoons get makeover
History is in the making as the world famous lagoons were given a “little makeover”. The 2.1 hectares of iconic lagoons, a favourite with the guests are being restored to their full glory. The upgrade of the largest lagoon was completed in June (using over 9000 litres of paint!).
The lagoon is 4,632 square metres and holds 6 million litres of chlorinated salt water from the ocean. It took 3 days to empty and 4 days to refill with seawater pumped in via a submersible pump.
The new seawater passed through a sand filter before being chlorinated and pumped into the lagoon. The Sheraton engineering and grounds teams have spent a lot of time and effort enhancing the famous lagoons and they are now sparkling as never before!
And the makeover hasn't stopped there. The Golf Course is looking as lush as ever! The famous 18 hole golf course has undergone some improvements with regular corring of the greens being undertaken. The tropical climate has helped as well with the “green season” rain greatly enhancing the fairways and greens to a lush splendor.
This year saw the Sheraton achieve the finals of the Queensland Hotels Association Awards for Excellence. The Sheraton team was recognised in the following categories:
• Best Function Operations/Facility
• Best Marketed Hotel 100+ Employees
• Best Environmental Practice
Editors Comments: The achievement by the Sheraton team to reach the finals of this prestigious Competition is a tribute to the dedication and efforts of each individual member of the team. We know that budgets have been difficult throughout the tourism and hospitality industry this year so to get to the top during this period must have been done by sheer will power and we salute them on behalf of Port Douglas for their efforts
