Ecotourism Australia has launched 'Operation Recovery' to assist ECO tourism certified businesses get back to business after the natural disasters in Australia.
 
“We are starting with those affected by Cyclone Yasi and floods in Queensland,” Ecotourism Australia CEO, Ms Kym Cheatham stated. “The best thing for the businesses that are open and operational is to get customers through their doors now.  We are trying to help them through Operation Recovery.”
 
Operation Recovery will comprise of a web page listing deals and packages for travellers that are available now, as well as promotions of individual deals through social media including its own facebook page.
 
“Governments are putting together packages to support the industry through marketing campaigns but many of the operators need help now.” Ms Cheatham said. “If we can help get out the message that these businesses are open and operating, maybe travellers will stop cancelling bookings.
 
"These dramatic weather events are a further blow to an industry already reeling under the ongoing impacts of the Global Financial Crisis, the declining desire of Australians to holiday in Australia, the strong Australian dollar, and the growth in competition from overseas destinations. 
 
“ECO tourism certified businesses are committed to environmental best practice, business ethics and social and cultural responsibilities ensure a quality product and ultimately, deliver on Australia’s reputation as a tourist destination.” Ms Cheatham said.
 
“The Australian tourism industry and most importantly, the tourism experience is richer for the efforts of these businesses. In times like these, they need our support so they will be there in the future to deliver these amazing experiences to visitors.”
