Port Douglas Fire(work)s up for New Years
The Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce has confirmed the good news for Port Douglas that this New Years celebrations will indeed have two firework displays during the evening of Dec 31.
The first firework display, which is always popular with the families with younger children will start at 9pm and the second display designed more for the adult audience of determined party revellers will take place at the traditional midnight hour to help welcome in the New Year.
The fireworks will be set off from Anzac Park opposite The Court House Hotel in Wharf Street thanks to the Douglas business community backing the organisers with sufficient sponsorship funds to be able to present the two displays.
There was a little doubt whether sufficient funding would be available this year for two displays but Chamber President Ken Dobbs told us, " Even with the current global financial situation, the business community has once again dug deep and come up with the money to ensure the New Year is welcomed in Port Douglas in the time honoured way. Our sincere thanks go to all the sponsors. It's always a great night, see you there".
Editors Comments: Well done the sponsors !!! Considering what a dreadful year 2009 has been what with the credit crunch, global financial chaos, bank interest rises, climate change talks going nowhere, and that's just for starters, locally there have been some difficult matters to contend with but please don't mention chlorinated water or you'll upset everyone ! So it is my advice to everyone, if I might be so bold as to offer some, that this year we should ALL be partying like we've never partied before on New Years Eve to let the brand New Year know that we're not going to put up with it anymore and it had better be a fantastic year or else !
Here's to a wonderful, healthy and prosperous new year....Let's Party....!
