Party for Parkinson's

Founders of the Port Douglas Mossman Parkinson's Support Group, James Watson and Penny Whyte.

The local Parkinson's support group is organising a 'Party for Parkinson's' this Saturday from 6pm at the Court House Hotel to raise funds for the newly formed group.

The Port Douglas Mossman Parkinson's Support Group, initiated by Cairns Region's volunteer of the year James Watson, has already received a boost with many local businesses kicking some fantastic auction items.

The fundraiser, which includes free entry, free food, and entertainment by the ever-popular Gusman, aims to raise money for specialist guest speakers such as neurologists to speak at the group's monthly meetings, and day to day support for local Parkinson's sufferers and their carers.

The Port Douglas Mossman Parkinson's Support Group received a boost recently after Nathan Claxton from custom design house Claxton Kustom Design in Melbourne, donated $1,000 to fund dairies to help in the management of the progressive neurological condition which affects around 6.3 million people world wide.

The next meeting of the support group is on Monday 28 March from 10am at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre. Local chiropractor, Doug Freeman, will be guest speaker.

Auction items up for grabs at Saturday night's fundraiser include:

Reef trip for two with the Quicksilver Group
Family pass to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures
Classical manicure at The Team Salon Z
Meal vouchers from Hog's Breath Cafe, Mossman Bowls Club, and Bistro 3
Two passes to the Wildlife Habitat
Two nights accommodation at Mango Tree
Facia or waxing at Possum's Beauty
Pass to the Australian Muster Experience
Service from Port Douglas Cleaning Company
