Nominate your favourite Restaurant and win $100

Zinc Restaurant in Port a contender for this award

By Roy Weavers

We are grateful to Marco Piat owner of Zinc and Finz Restaurants in Port Douglas for bringing to our attention the 2010 Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence.

We thought that you would like to know that if you send in a nomination for this prestigious award you could win a pre-paid visa card to the value of $100.
Between now and 28 February, simply vote by clicking on the link below for your favourite nominated restaurant which in our case for Port Douglas would be either Finz or Zinc via a simple entry form for your chance to win a pre-paid Visa gift card to the value of $100.

You may enter at www.savouraustralia.com.au/vote/

Only restaurants with the highest number of nominations can enter into these awards so Zinc and Finz need as many entries as possible. Please pass this message on to family, friends and acquaintances as voting finishes at 5pm on February 28 !

Editors Comments: I like the idea of nominating two of our superb Port Douglas restaurants for these awards and getting the chance to win $100, which I could then go and spend in one of these excellent establishments. And in any case, even without knowing who their opposition will be, they should win anyway.

Have you seen how many restaurants and shops are closed or are operating on very reduced trading days recently?
I know this is the low season, but tourists arriving in Port for their holidays are just going to return and tell their friends that a lot Port restaurants and or shops are not open and so, "don't travel to Port in the low season". It just makes next year's low season even lower.
Port needs to provide a quality holiday experience year round and this means just because a tourist decided to travel in the low season doesn't mean they should be offered a poorer choice/experience than those who travel in the high, albeit, just a little wetter.
We cannot just keep saying this is normal for Port Douglas, this is just a blame game rather than accepting the real truth that business has changed and tourists expect and should be offered better.
Sure, everyone needs holidays but structure your business so you can still open otherwise don't complain that next year's low season is worse than this year. Port Douglas is a tourist town and tourism is year round.

On the top of my list of great places to eat out at is by far Plantation Resort. OK so the secrets out! They do the best ever combination curry every Thursday night for $19.90 and trust me it's enough to feed me, my husband and our young fella. This venue is soooo kid friendly - while you lounge around sipping a nice glass of white next to the pool the kids are playing in the pool having a great old time.
And I must mention the pizzas 'The Boss' is enormous in topping at only $18 for a large one which will feed two of you well and truly they also do home delivery for an extra $3.
Anybody who resides in Port Douglas do yourselves a favour and spend an evening dining out at Plantation Resort, remember to bring along your togs and a towel.
Oh and how can I forget the service - sensational.
