Music helps our garden grow

Port Douglas Community Garden

Organisers of the emerging Port Douglas Community Garden have called upon many of the region's local musicians to help raise funds for the project.

A new CD containing 11 tracks has been produced just in time for last minute Christmas shopping, in what Community Garden Project Manager Kevin Eldridge describes as a fantastic collaboration.

"Frank Frikker from Gecko productions together with Tanya Morris who is the Community Development Officer here at the Neighbourhood Centre, instigated the music CD of local musicians who donated
their songs to the CD."

Musicians who have contributed to the CD include Clancy, Los Caracoles, Kim Hurley, Frank Frikker, Omid Master, Gigi Davies, Ben Jammin, and K Star and the Cubby House Kids.

"They (the tracks) are all a really good theme. They're all nature related, they're all really laid back and easy listening songs. They're uplifting, and have themes of nature, community, Far North

Queensland and the general lifestyle we enjoy up here," Mr Eldridge said.

The CD cost $1000 to produce, was recorded in Larry Cash's Port Douglas studio, and was funded through a grant from the Mayor's Discretionary Fund.

The CD's cost just $10 and will hit town on Friday. Pre-orders can be made by contacting Kevin Eldridge on 0434 372 040 or via email kevin@kstartours.com.au, and he has vowed to deliver all orders prior to Christmas Day.

An official launch of the CD is being planned with live performances from the artists involved at the Community Garden site, in Mowbray Street Port Douglas, in mid-February.

Well done all concerned. All the best with this project - I know it will succeed! And I'm having a CD sent to Blighty - well I've got to add my support somehow?
Merry Christmas!

This is a great project and I hope our community supports it by buying the CD. 11 great song for $10 - what a bargain and what a nice way to support a community garden. Hopefully some are happy to "donate" even more and get more CD's in return. They are perfect Xmas gifts. Special thanks to Kevin who really pushed to have the CD done & delivered before Xmas.
