Local hotels named in state awards

Nichole Kanzlemar
The Sheraton Mirage's Nichole Kanzlemar has been nominated for a QHA Young Achiever Award.

Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas has been named the State’s best hotel for its environmentally-friendly green policies.

The circa 1987, Christopher Skase-built resort was named as best environmental practice hotel at the Queensland Hotels Association’s awards for excellence in Brisbane on October 5.

The resort, which was recently purchased by Melbourne-based developer, David Mariner, houses five acres of lagoon pools, 297 hotel rooms and 100 villas.

Management implemented an environmental committee in 2007 to address ways to operate the resort on a greener scale, including reduced laundering of linen, as well as electricity and water-saving initiatives.

"The hotel has invested into an extensive overall energy audit where we will receive recommendations for further improvements and investments which we will take on board," said Sheraton Mirage's Nichole Kanzlemar, who was one of three Sheraton staff to be nominated for the Young Achiever Awards along with Amanda Harpley and Christopher Stokoe.

The nominees will be subjected to individual interviews by the QHA judging panel who will also take a first hand look at the property.

Sheraton Mirage's Jonathon Voss took out the award last year for the TNQ Young Achiever.

Meanwhile, Bloomfield Wilderness Lodge, a three and a half hour drive north of Port Douglas via the CREB Track, was named the state’s best boutique accommodation for their 17-room resort, which is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

The Hilton Cairns was named the state’s best Best Deluxe Hotel Accommodation 5 Star + category, while Holiday Inn Cairns received the best redeveloped accommodation/resort award.

Wow I wonder who payed who to win this so called award? Good old fashion back pocket filling hey? All the while the internals of this hotel are a complete shambles. No one wants to work there. High staff turnover. What a lovely smear campaign. You can get enough evidence by looking through trip advisor and see for yourself how many screw ups this place has on a daily basis, not to mention the zero care factor from lachlan the manager. Why so easily fooled because some pretty chick fronts this event HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO

WOW!!!!!
What a gorgeous looking girl, doesn't SHE bring some WOW factor to that legendary hotel. The legendary hotel may need some invigorating but she looks to be doing that. From what I understand she is doing some fantastic work for the corporation and they are ecstatic about her. Good Luck to you Miss Nichole.
