Leu joins Wet Tropics Board

Julia Leu will form part of the Wet Tropics Management Authority.

Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu has joined the Board of the Wet Tropics Management Authority (WTMA).

The WTMA is responsible for managing the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, and ensuring Australia's obligations under the World Heritage Convention are met.

The WTMA said that Ms Leu's appointment was attributed to "her long experience in local government along with her skills and knowledge of community engagement systems and her strong commitment to conservation of the Wet Tropics rainforests."

Ms Leu was grateful for the opportunity to work with the Authority. "I'm quite honoured to be appointed to the WTMA Board," she said.

"Given where we are as part of the wet tropics, the legislation (governing the World Heritage area) very much affects our lives here."

Ms Leu will join the WTMA for their next Board meeting early next month.
