Latest weather in Port Douglas

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, well we hope that all those 'hungry for cyclone' journos are hearing these two photos shown here in this article, when they say, 'back off and go and annoy someone else, you're time with us has been wasted enough. There must be better things to report on like killer koalas or man eating geckos (they probably don't exist either)"
Beautiful weather for a sunset over Port Douglas Marina

Continuing our campaign for accurate weather reporting from our southern and that includes Cairns media colleagues, we thought the easiest way to keep you informed meteorologically as to what was happening in Port Douglas was to show you.

Photo one was taken at dusk on Monday evening over the Meridien Marina whilst sitting on the Radio Station balcony having a cold one and the second one was taken the following morning at 8.30am down on Four Mile Beach walking to work enjoying the sea breeze. On both days the temperatures reached over 30 degrees for the observant amongst you, you'll have noted that there weren't many holiday makers doing the same.

That's because with the southern media's help many of them have been scared away and cancelled their vacations over the weekend because of the cyclones and monsoon rains. Thanks guys !

Editors comments: As you can see the wet season weather in Port Douglas can change for the better very quickly, even if the sun isn't out the rain is warm and that's something you don't get in Europe, so anyone in the freezing, snowy conditions that have been prevalent in Europe over the past 8 weeks we invite you to get on a plane and come and get warmed up with us, Oh!, and do me a favour, don't believe everything they say in the papers or the TV, to get an accurate weather picture, check with local platforms who monitor the weather daily.

It seems to be a common affliction that Northern Queensland has to bear and it has not been unnoticed by visitors (like myself) and writers. Bill Bryson experienced the same issue back in 1999 when he was writing of his travels around Oz. He arrive in Cairns (by Qantas believe it or not!) during a spell of turbulent weather. In Cairns he heard the national broadcasters wailing doom and gloom of cyclones and flooding (and fatalities). Yet, a day or so later, he was in Port Douglas on his way to the reef in brilliant sunshine and a day later at Cape Tribulation finding the TV news reports of devastation completely unwarranted.
I was curious to see how things developed as Olga threatened. My kins folk in the Port initially reported a close-down was in operation, but as Olga passed, most of the town were on the beach enjoying the sunshine and a glorious sunset. Okay it rained, but that is a seasonal thing. The disaster that the NSW based press so longed to happen never did. But that's modern "news" reporting for you folks.
As a seasoned sceptic of multi-national TV media reports, take everything with a pinch of salt - the situation is often over-cooked for sensationalism.

My message to all travellers in Oz, go and visit Port Douglas whatever the weather reports - it is paradise all year round..... I really wish I was there right now!

I lived in Port Douglas for some years. My son is in Port Douglas (Ricardo Tuapola) and i am unable to contact him. It is pure ignorance that mere human-beans think that they are above mother nature, so when the *&^% hits the fan, they will say we saw it coming. Don't go on past experience, as we no those things never quite go the way we hoped. Be sure before making any plans to visit. Port is a stunning place and even i would recommend it as a holiday destination but i wouldn't be so keen to enter a danger zone. MUST HAVE ROCKS IN UR HEAD.
