Flying fox summit and expo

Winged creatures, Friday the 13th. It's all too much.

Council and the Wet Tropics Management Authority will host a Flying Fox Summit and Expo on Friday 13 August at the Novotel Oasis Resort and later at the Cairns City Library.

Over the years Flying Fox camps throughout Australia have become an issue of concern for local governments, state authorities and residents.

Local experts, researchers, representatives from all levels of government and relevant community and industry groups will join together to discuss and evaluate a range of issues associated with flying fox camps.

Guest speakers will also present case studies relating to relocation studies, health, and legislation surrounding this protected species.

Following the summit, a flying fox expo will be held in the courtyard area of Cairns Library. The expo will provide a one stop shop for information and advice on flying fox issues and particiapnts can come face to face with a flying fox, get connected with the experts and access free information on related issues.

The Cairns Flying Fox Summit will be held at the Novotel Oasis Resort in Lake Street, Cairns on Friday, 13 August, 2010 from 8.30am to 3pm.

The Cairns Flying Fox Expo will be held in the front courtyard of the Cairns City Library on Friday, 13 August from 3.30pm to 6pm. Council will be showing the original Batman movie in City Place from 7pm.

For more information or to RSVP for the summit contact Cairns Regional Council on 4044 3326 or by email.

While I appreciate your frustration I am not sure why you think flying-foxes are not native animals. All of the species that live here have lived here for many thousands of years. One species only lives in Australia, no where else in the rest of the world.

I hope the summit includes how to cope with cleaning up after these messy buggers! I'm personally sick and tired of having to clean up my pool and patio area every weekend because these pests have crapped all over the place. Anyone who has not had to endure living with these non-indigenous pains should not even be allowed to have an opinion. And if you don't believe me, I'm more than willing to send them over to your place so you can see how long you'd stay smiley.
