After the devastation in southern Queensland, Cairns Regional Council CEO Lyn Russell extended the Council's assistance in the recovery.
 

The Local Government Association of Queensland has been collating offers of assistance from Councils across the state to coordinate response to identified needs in the affected areas.
 

Ms Russell said Council has been asked to respond to a request lodged by the Lockyer Valley Regional Council for additional disaster management expertise.
 

“The local Council resources in the Lockyer Valley are stretched with the scale of the event they are dealing with,” Ms Russell said.
 
“We have committed to deploy two experienced disaster management officers to assist the affected townships in coordinating the clean-up effort in Murphy's Creek, Helidon, Grantham and Laidely. (They) will lend their expertise for at least five days.
 
“The unprecedented disaster events across Queensland and Victoria highlight the need for our community to be prepared in the current cyclone season.
 
“Council is maintaining readiness with staff on standby to operate the new Cairns Disaster Coordination Centre, opened in December in Woree.”
