Daintree River Wildlife Report

Our friends David and Tyna White from Solar Whisper Daintree River Wildlife Cruises have reported that all the adult female crocodiles are nesting now and very secretive. The adult males, Fat Albert and Scarface are still pushing the boundaries of their territories and having the odd clash now and again.  Such is the life of the male crocodile, you can't be seen to give an inch or your competition will take it as a sign of weakness.

Very exciting for the bird watching enthusiasts has been the first pair of Shining Flycatchers seen nesting.  And other nesting activity has been seen from the Brown-backed Honeyeater, Large-billed Gerygone and the Yellow-bellied Sunbird.  There was even a rare sighting of a Torresian Crow, which although a resident is very seldom seen.

There was also lots of excitement when the very cute and tiny Blossom bat was seen sleeping near the bright red nocturnal flowers of the Apple Mangrove.
