DAB hands in first exhibition

Photographers
DAB photographic tutor, Ian Arcus, imparts his knowledge.

Some of the region's finest photographers will have their work on display to the public through the Douglas Arts Base (DAB) Photography Exhibition.

The exhibition will run for one week from Friday evening, 23 September (launch at 6.30pm), at the Douglas Arts Base headquarters at 11 Mill Street Moassman.

The will be DAB's first photographic exhibition in it's nine year history, and according to event organiser, Nada Petrasevic, will have something for everyone.

"The exhibition will show a broad range of photographic styles and subject matter by Photography Club and Beginner's Photography Class members," Ms Petrasevic said.

"We'll be showcasing our fabulous region; the landscapes, sunrises, sunsets, creatures, plants, people and locations that make up the Far North - and the Douglas region in particular."

All works will be available for sale at very affordable prices, and the exhibition will feature photographs by people whose names may be familiar to many The Newsport readers.

Trevor and Cathy Ford, Joan Gray, Ruth Ross, Glenda Gordon, Susanne Stannard, and Renae Marano have all entered images into The Newsport's popular Best Photo Competition.

DAB now boasts 25 active members, with the Photo Club a relatively new addition.

"The Photo Club began two years ago when a few of my friends, who had been getting a lot of guidance from me for some years, ganged up on me and asked me to start 'something'.

"We hold a monthly meeting at DAB that involves a points system for popular votes on images submitted for judging, as well as tutoring and workshops in photographic techniques either at DAB, outdoors or in a studio setting," Ms Petrasevic said.

"Members have a lot of fun with some terrific cameras and techniques. It is a rewarding group for all of us."

The Douglas Arts Base Photography Exhibition will be open daily from 10am - 4pm with a coin donation at entry.

Just a minor correction - the DAB Photography Club has about 25 active members, and DAB itself now proudly hosts well over 100 active members. I hope all rock up to support our photo event. Many thanks to the wonderful community support we have had over the years!
