Love them or hate them, as a resident of the region it pays to stay informed with what's happening within Cairns Regional Council. And that's become easier now they've established their own Twitter account.

“As a Council, we are always looking for ways to inform and interact with the community and Twitter is just one means to do that,” Mayor Val Schier said.

“The immediacy of Twitter will allow Council to inform people of decisions and events and distribute urgent advice as it comes to hand.

“Combined with our Facebook page and website, there are ample opportunities for people to gain insight into the activities of Council via the web."

Cr Schier said communication was a two-way street and was eager to hear from residents.

“We also welcome questions, discussion and general feedback through these applications,” she said.
