Copenhagen talks could cost Queensland $200m
If climate change talks in Copenhagen fail to deliver, the Climate Change Minister, Kate Jones has warned that $200m could be lost to Queensland via public fundng grants designed to help lower greenhouse gas emissions
Queensland produces a third of Australia's emissions but has only one fifth of the total population. Minister Jones warned that there was a lot at stake for the sunshine state over the 2 weeks of talks in Copenhagen.
She wrote as a guest blogger for couriermail.com.au's Green Blogthat the absence of global leadership to reduce emissions, climate change will seriously damage Queensland's environment and the thousands of jobs that its unique biodiversity supports. The Great Barrier Reef could be in serious danger.
She will be in Copenhagen this week as part of the Australian Government's official delegation. She concluded, "With our climate-sensitive industries and ecosystems, we will be the hardest hit of anywhere in Australia. We need global action."
Editors Comments: There's only one way to deal with climate change and greenhouse gas emissions, that's get rid of the politicians, they produce more hot air and nasty gas emissions than any other pollutant and the cost saving would allow all the changes required to cut back on the damage we are doing to the environment plus I could have a packet of nuts again with my beer at the Courty without having to go and stand in the dining section!
