Christmas carols tonight

The sound of Christmas carols and the aroma of a summer barbecue will fill Port Douglas tonight as a Christmas Carols Karaoke community party will take place in Market Park (Wharf Street) from 7pm to 9pm.

With Santa Claus dropping in to say Merry Christmas ahead of a busy weekend, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a relaxed, tropical Christmas gathering in the “enchanted forest”.

“There are firefly laser lights installed throughout the park – it’s something you need to walk through to really appreciate,” Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu said.

SES volunteers will cook up a sausage sizzle and singers are invited to register for their turn on the microphone at the start of the evening.

“It’s a great opportunity for families to get together and celebrate the festive season,” Cr Leu said.

“There will be candles available and people are encouraged to bring a picnic rug or chair and join in the fun.”

In the event of rain, the festivities will be moved to the Sugar Wharf.

The event has been organised by Cairns Regional Council in conjunction with Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce.
