Christmas car theft warning
We have received a report that overnight a few cars in the Nautilus Street area were targeted by three youths dressed all in black hoodies and black pants with black backpacks. Apparently one of them had a skull and crossbones on his tee shirt, so if you spot anyone around call the police and report it.
These were obviously not chancers who happened upon an unlocked car. These were determined thieves who knew this quiet area.
Their method of operation has one of them standing on lookout while the other two rummage through the parked cars on each side of the road.
The cars targeted last night had personal effects like CDs and other small items stolen but fortunately they were interrupted by residents at about 2.00am who heard car doors slamming. One of the residents gave chase but when it became obvious there was three of them, he quite rightly gave up the chase.
The police were called but the thieves had disappeared back under the rocks from which they had come by then.
Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Cairns Police on 40307000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
Editors comments: This is a timely festive warning for the whole of the Douglas Region. Not everyone is filled with the Christmas spirit of giving, some think it's the season for taking !
A small minority of people are low life scumbags who prey on the relaxed enjoyment of others during this festive time of year within the area. So be warned, lock your cars, keep valuables out of sight.
Lock your house doors when you're out partying and with any luck you won't have a shock when you get home that your possessions have gone to live at someone else's house this Christmas. Be alert this Christmas and have a great time ! |
