Cheeky thieves hit Mossman restaurant

Describe image
It's business as usual for chef Danielle Robinson.

Information into a break and enter on a new Mossman restaurant by cheeky thieves is being sought by Police and the restaurant’s owners.

Leigh Slade of D’s Steakhouse said the Junction Road restaurant was broken into at 6pm on Monday evening (a non-trading night), with approximately $4000 of goods and cash stolen.

Alcohol, soft drinks, cash from the till, Eskys and pourers were all taken, along with distinctive custom-made cushion covers used to carry the cache of goods from the premises.

Mossman Police Sergeant Edward Lukin said police were appealing to the public for any witnesses to step forward.

And while there have been suggestions within the community that more break and enter crimes on businesses happened annually on the Mossman Show public holiday, Sergeant Lukin said there was no evidence to suggest such a trend, nor a diversion of staff away from Front Street.

“There was a significant number of police staff working on the Monday night for the show holiday,” he said.

“But there’s no permanent police presence at the show to take away from numbers from the main street.

“I don’t think there is a spike in break and enters on Mossman Show day.”

Despite police taking fingerprints D’s Steakhouse at 5pm on Tuesday, it was business as usual for the new restaurant on Tuesday evening, with the community turning out to support the business with good numbers.

D’s Steakhouse opened in December last year, with 21-year-old Danielle Robinson making a splash as head chef.
