Tourism Tropical North Queensland's emergency accommodation register has received an overwhelming response, including a huge number of offer of accommodation from Port Douglas.

TTNQ sent an email to its members calling on people to register their rooms, and the message has spread further than it could have hoped with the email being forwarded from person to person.

"(There's been a) fantastic response from Port Douglas. Everyone has jumped in to offer rooms from big resorts to boutique resorts," said Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree's Doug Ryan.

Sea Temple are among those local businesses who are keen to help in the weeks ahead.

"We've offered the flood relief ten rooms a day until the middle of February and Mirvac (Sea Temple's parent company) has offered 40 rooms per night from its five hotels, two in Cairns, one in Palm Cove, and two in Port Douglas," said Sea Temple general manager Andrew McSweeney.

Mowbray By The Sea's Chris Duffy said it's important for people to know the offer is there, even if it's not taken up right away.

"Whether people utilise it or not I'm not too sure, but in case someone does want to get away (it's available)," Mr Duffy said.

"We'll judge it based on demand. . . Everyone's got to try and put their bit in and there's no doubt we all want to help as much as we can, it's just finding the best way to help," he said.

And it's not just businesses that are opening their doors to those in need, local residents are generously laying out the welcome mat for survivors.

Michelle Howarth was one of the first people in Port Douglas to put there own home up for emergency accommodation.

"Any help I can provide for the ones in need. My heart goes out to them," she said.
